My sincerest apologies for posting this after the event but Entropy screened (out of competition) in the Krok International Animation Film Festival this year, which took place in Russia. This is the second film festival that Entropy was accepted by, and the first film festival outside of New Zealand that we’ve been a part of, which is a real honour. Although the festival ended on the 30th of September, the website can be seen here.

Sorry once again about posting this late, especially if we do have any fans in Russia who wanted to see it. I’ll try to make sure I keep on top of updating the site if anything important comes up in future.

We are very excited to announce that the latest Rhubarb Zoo short film, Entropy, will be screening at the 40th New Zealand International Film Festival, as part of Homegrown Programme 3. Every year, Homegrown showcases a selection of New Zealand-made short films as part of the NZIFF, the biggest film festival in the country, so we’re very proud to be a part of this very prestigious event!

Homegrown Programme 3 will be playing in:

Auckland, 25-Jul-2008, 5:45PM and 26-Jul-2008, 2:30PM

Wellington, 1-Aug-2008, 6:15PM and 3-Aug-2008, 6:00PM

Check the Film Festival website for more details, also there should be booklets available from all kinds of places, usually outside the Civic in Auckland, don’t know about Wellington, I think libraries have them.

We’ll certainly be there for the Auckland screenings, so please come along if you’d like to support us and see some Rhubarb Zoo animation on the big screen!

Hey everybody!

Updates to this site may be far and few between but we assure you that we have indeed been working hard.

This has already been announced elsewhere but we’re proud to officially announce the completion of our second short film, Entropy. We have been submitting it to film festivals and will let you know if we have any luck with that. We’ve also updated the Entropy section of the website with a couple of new screenshots and new versions of the old ones, which you can see here. Eventually the film will be made available to purchase in some form or another, more details on that will be posted closer to the time.

We’ve been busy writing the story to our upcoming web series, tentatively titled Caleb’s Trial, for which we’ve started a blog so you can follow the progress of its creation. The development of the series is fairly slow going for the moment but will ramp up quite a bit when we get into designing the characters and environments. So the blog probably won’t be updated too often for the first few months, but it should get more interesting later on.

Last but not least, we released the Ectype’s End soundtrack (along with a brand new bonus track) which you can find here. Sometime soon we’ll also make the mp3 of Ode to James available to download as well with a couple of remixes of it.

Good evening friends.

The gears of the small yet imposing juggernaught that is Rhubarb Zoo are slowly grinding. I don’t doubt you’ve noticed the shiny new Ruzu page - and if you’re fresh I’ll extend a warm and hearty handshake to accompany the welcome above. We’re getting very close to finishing our second short film - it’s classically animated through and through and is looking pretty pretty in HD format if I may say so myself - check out the Entropy page here for a taste of what’s to come.

We’re actually quite friendly people despite what you might already assume - we’d love to hear what you think of our short film Ectype’s End and your thoughts on animation or other (more potentially bizarre) subjects in our fledgeling forum.

If you live in New Zealand and spend money on magazines its likely you’ll have heard of the bi-monthly publication Idealog. We’ve been featured in the newest magazine under the title ‘Not For Kids’ (specifically to draw attention to how hardcore we are). If you find yourself lost and lonely in a bookstore pick it up for a flick-through and imagine a warm Ruzu embrace as you read it. This issue won’t be hard to find - it’s has an impossibly orange cover and the words ‘billion’ ‘poverty’ and ‘trillion’ on the front.

We’re ridiculously excited about our plans for next year - all will be revealed in the coming months but suffice to say that we’re planning something no mortal or sane man would dare attempt. Women might; I’m not all that sure about them yet.

Well, we hope you enjoy Ectype’s End and browsing the site. We appreciate any feedback, encouraging or degrading, in the comments below or the aforementioned forum. Thanks for stopping by!

This Friday and Saturday, if you are around Parnell you should pop into the exhibition room and check out our partially completed films, well before we release them onto the general public! The rest of our classes films are also on display, so it’d be well worth a visit!
